This Sunday, we are launching a new series called Sabotage, along with an all-church wide study to go with it. The study will have videos of bonus material to help groups start the discussion about the topic for that week. We try do all-church studies at least a couple times a year with our community groups. There are several reasons why we think it’s important to do church wide studies with our groups:
1. It helps the church align on one focus for a few weeks. We normally allow our groups to pick a study that they feel fits the group for that semester. We help them by giving them several choices – see Curriculum Menu – but the choice of study is ultimately up to them. It helps to bring everyone back to the same page a few times a year.
2. It gives us an opportunity to launch a lot of new groups. Before we start a church-wide study, we make a huge push for people to start HOST groups during that series. We were able to launch over 100 brand new HOST groups for the Sabotage series. A majority of these groups will continue on as community groups after the series.
3. Our Senior Pastor teaches all of our groups for 6 weeks. By shooting our own bonus videos, our pastor is not just delivering the Sunday message, but is also able to be a part of teaching all of our groups each week. We will distribute the videos to groups on dvd’s and through streaming channels.
4. It increases the stickiness of the Sunday messages. The series that we pick to do all-church studies around are critical to the spiritual growth of our people. We want to make those messages as sticky as possible by reinforcing them in our groups during the week.
